Hamilton - Kitchen Makeover

The Homeowners' goal was to update their kitchen in order to make it more elegant and functional. The combination of new lighting, painted and glazed maple cabinets, granite countertops, an island that was built to follow the shape of the room, as well as the moldings and exquisite cook top and hood gave them exactly what they were looking for, and in the timeframe they needed it done.

"We first met Cary Johnson and Open Meadow Homes last summer when he was doing a renovation for our daughter and son–in–law. We were impressed with the work that they were doing so we hired them to renovate a gazebo attached to our deck. The project went so well that we decided to explore a complete re-do of our 20 year old kitchen. Just having the discussion was a big deal for us because we had done a kitchen about 23 years ago and it was a nightmare – months and thousands of dollars over the contract.

From the beginning Cary and his entire team, including talented kitchen designer Jane Face, were wonderful to work with. They really listened to us and involved us in the planning process. They took the time to find out how we used our space, what we liked and disliked and what we were concerned about. They took our suggestions seriously and if something didn’t make sense they explained why rather than just brushing it off. Cary pointed out where we could save money and where it made sense to spend money. Jane drew up a complete plan that showed that she and Cary truly understood what we were looking for. Cary brought in several sub contractors to look at the project and then developed a comprehensive estimate that explained all of the costs.

Once we decided to go ahead with the project we had to decide when. It was early fall and we were concerned about starting the project with the holidays so close. Cary checked all of the components and the schedules of all of the sub contractors and told us that he would be able to complete the project in time for us to host Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day sixteen of us sat down to a dinner that was prepared in our beautiful new kitchen.

Throughout the entire project we were impressed with the quality of workmanship and with how pleasant each and every person was to work with. Debbye works from home and was concerned about how all of the disruption and the many sub contactors would affect her. We can say that everyone from Open Meadow and each of their sub-contractors was a pleasure to deal with. They were friendly, respectful and kind. At the end of every day they cleaned up and swept the work area.
